I remember similar problems when I did my year and a half in 'the sandbox'. The food was bad sometimes. Even the water we had purified was bad and gave us dysentery a lot of the time. Finally, we contracted drinking water through a local bottled water company, as there was no such thing as potable water in the Middle East.

As for women's hygiene products...no one ever had that issue. Not only does the military have 'comfort packs' that they can order through normal supply chains (we always had too many), but the PX system was usually readily accessible to all but the extreme front line (which I was a part of); the women had no issues getting the tampax, or even hair and cosmetic products.

I have to admit, though; without people having care package drives, or websites such as anysoldier, it would have been harder.

It's good to hear that drives like this really do help the soldiers.
