Yesterday I was in the grocery store. Among other things, I wanted to buy some bread. I'd like to point out that all non-paste-like breads (paste -like breads being the no-grain, poor quality breads, i.e., what's affordable) were on the shelf labeled "specialty breads". Holy crap.

Yeah, honey wheat my ass. It's good that you read the label. But don't worry, there are some good breads out there available in supermarkets. Reading the ingredient list is good, and the other thing you can do is look at grams of fiber per slice. 3g/slice is good. 1 or fewer is bad.

Often cheaper store brands will be full of HFCS (=DEATH!), but brand names of similar products sometimes (not always) have better ingredients.
