Fantastic article, thank you so much for sharing it! I think coaching outside of sports is something people frown upon - there's a lot of emphasis on independence, y'know? But if you really want to get better at something, there's a point where you simply have to have an outside person to help. Of course, finding the right person is important too.

It's definitely why I want to be a teacher. But even teachers need to be taught, y'know? There was an article in NYT a while back where a school had started implementing a system similar to the coaching described in this article and how successful it had been. It makes perfect sense, but the ones who hold the money don't seem to agree.

Really enjoyed this ^___^!

Interesting . . . I've long felt that we underuse the expertise of people older and more experienced than us. American culture tends to define maturity as "autonomy," so relying on others can be seen as babyish. But obviously you can achieve more by working with others . . .

But the thing is, this isn't even really relying on others. You're just getting performance feedback... Don't even most corporations have that in some fashion? (Granted, those corporations might not do it very well...)

lol jenny

if you're interested, this book kind of looks at what your talents are, even though i think you already identified that. I own the book, but there's a test that comes with it and it's not too expensive.

I am always looking to improve myself and these things help. There was a thing on NPR recently about identifying what you like to do and really exploring your interests so that you can find a career that you will enjoy! You're on a great track!
