Deep Political/philosophical Thoughts

I've just finished reading the comments on *yet another* article regarding the issue of abortion, and as alway my mind is swimming with thoughts. I admit I have a particular POV on the subject - not because I've had an abortion, but simply because I have yet to see someone else expound upon things the way they are in my head. I thought I would ( Read more... )

IMHO the mother's consent to bear a child overrules anything else when it comes to a choice like this.

I agree completely - problem is that many who don't see it the same way would like nothing better than to take the choice away. I once-upon-a-time wanted to be a lawyer, so I sometimes try to look at things from a legal perspective, rather than ethical or logical (if that makes sense). If, God forbid, the issue were somehow brought again to a Supreme Court (in whichever country), what argument(s) would settle things once and for all?

Least that's what goes through my mind ;)

I'm pro-choice simply because I believe it is the woman's choice - and no one else's- on what to do with her body.

I'm with you 100% on that one - there are unfortunately too many peeps out there who see things differently and want to change things.

In 2008, the Order of Canada was given to Dr. Morgentauler, he's the doctor who championed a woman's right to abortion (can't remember the specific legal stuff in that one). When that happened, it was like the debate which everyone thought had been settled was brought back again. Some religious dudes who had Orders sent them back in protest, etc etc etc. After that, when I see opinions on the issue in forums, I wonder how long till it's brought back to court to be settled once and for all (though many of us thought it had been) - so my head works around the legal arguments. I blame it on 2 years of law classes in high school that made me want to be a lawyer ;)
