Well, I just got back from Arkansas visiting my step dad's side of the family for the first time in over 6 years. I was so nervous going into the whole trip because of my past with the family. We play the hand we're dealt, and even though we know the rules... it takes time to learn the game. It's the curse of the ever expanding Christian culture. It seems your step-dad's family has fallen prey to this, since they've heard the gospel but yet live as if it isn't real. For the most part, it isn't for them. How many people have probably come and gone in their life who are "Christians" but are really "Christian Lites." I can completely relate. I'm so incredibly lucky with my family. My dad may have died, but I was raised by two godly parents in a comfortable Christian home. Then there's my mom's family. They're just so screwed up and I sometimes wonder how they ended up that way. My grandparents are smart, wonderful, godly people... yet her half-brother's family is just what you described. They resent us, though. At least they're proud of you. It's gotten to the point where we can't even have Christmas with them because they keep digging a gulf of jealousy and insults between us.
