Isn't that silly? How one can project their perception of another's status even in the restroom? Do you find yourself struggling for something to say just because you're in her presence?
It seems a bit of game - at least seated in the stall. "Do I know the person next to me? If I make... 'bad noises', I'll have to either stay here until he leaves or make sure I can get out without him knowing who it was."
It's funny you mention that, because I almost related the ensuing conversation.
Someone had left a People magazine on the little credenza. The headline was "Half Their Size", and the Boss looks at it and says, "You know, I wish I could be half my size", to which I laughed and replied, "I'd settle for losing a quarter of my size".
So, in a way, she was admitting her self-consciousness, even though we're around the same build and weight (not that I couldn't stand to drop 20 or so). She has always been very nice, it was just awkward to be standing their in my cords and sweater while she's wearing an outfit that probably cost a week of my pay.
