I'm home

Dec 21, 2004 21:29

I saw something really strange and nifty in the clouds while on the plane on the way to Richmond. The picture I drew of it is here. Perhaps someone could explain how that happens. I'd never seen anything like it in my life.

Anyway, I'll update more later. Am still recovering.

Whatever it is, it's one of the prettiest things I've ever seen.

Try looking here...

No wait, I'm an idiot... The actual answer is that you were seeing a halo. http://www.birch.net/~lindabrown/000016.htm
You could also look up "solar halo" and find more information I'm sure. I did and found... http://www.ne.jp/asahi/stellar/scenes/aop_e/halo2001.htm

At any rate, they surely are beautiful. I believe that someday I'll find it... the rainbow connection... the lovers, the dreamers and me.

Sorry, I just had to!

Absolutely beautiful Jaimie! It does look like a form of High Altitude Aurora to be sure. I often see the like when flying home from Hawai'i. It has to do with ice crystals in the upper atmosphere and such. I can't help thinking that the amount of air travel may have an affect on these as well. Ty looking here as well:
