This running thing

So a while ago-holy crap, coming up on two years?-I started running as a form of exercise. I'd been working out for a while, mostly elliptical and some machines at my gym, and while that was helpful, it didn't help get rid of some extra flab or build muscle. (I know health isn't determined just by pounds, but when there's not much noticeable ( Read more... )

Taking the kids to the gym, to their kids' club, has made me the same: I need to do as much as possible in a short time frame before the baby loses it. So for me that means going full tilt on the lliptical instead of walking on the treadmill.
Keep on keepin' on!

Elliptical is really good, too, I'm not knocking it! Especially if you do push yourself. (I wasn't doing that enough.)

Oh, I know. It's that way for whatever you choose. Even a treadmill where the pace is set and you just need to keep up...well, who sets the pace on the machine? I definitely have less-than-full-tilt days, but try to push it, to make those 30 minutes be worth something. My preference, having a body full of slow-twitch muscles, would always be endurance, going more slowly for like 90 minutes. So I gotta push, hating it. ;-P

Wow. Congrats. I actually like running (or used to when I did it). My sister runs and is addicted to it like breating. Time goes by when we aren't paying attention and I still haven't gotten back into exercising--ah, another thing on the to-do list!

Maybe you'll be doing marathons eventually!

Thanks :)

Ohhh man. I'm actually training for a half-marathon--that's what the five-miles is about. Getting up to 13.whatever seems daunting but possible, but 26 just sounds crazy.

Wow, that's pretty good. So far, I'm finding if I leave a little late to pick X up and I have a baby strapped to me, that it's a heck of a workout to get there on time. But 5 miles, wow.

I think carrying kids around probably gives you guys an extra bit of workout that I don't get, too!

It's weird. Going from three to four miles was kind of a slog, but up to five wasn't that hard.

That's great! I'm really glad you're happy with your workout.

I really should try running.

When I get physically better, I cannot WAIT to exercise again. I miss it so much. I want to try running now too! (I've always been a disciple of the Holy Church of the Elliptical, but I can stand to try new things.)

The elliptical is pretty handy, especially if there's joint pain. I still use it--even I couldn't run every single day. I just kept being lazy and not pushing myself on it enough.
