the more it makes me want to puke on the steps of democracy or hurl myself off a bridge! Are the American People really this stupid?

I know...I KNOW!! Check out the video I posted in my journal--it expresses these same concerns. Although it's less a condemnation of people's stupidity and more of a 'how did we fraking GET here?'

Yes. Collectively, we are that stupid.

We proved it in 2004. We proved it in 2000.

I see in Gov. Palin a great capacity for hypocrisy that, though extensive work has been put into it, has yet to be filled. And it seems to engender the same depth of hypocrisy in a great number of Americans.

(sarcasm) Yes, she is exactly what we need (/sarcasm)

I wouldn't say the 2000 election proved we were stupid, just very heavily divided...maybe the Supreme Court was stupid...but again that's not a reflection of our country, just its past leadership. I agree about the hypocrisy, but what really pisses me off about her is her stand on woman's rights (abortion, contraception, so on) and her total lack of disregard for woman's struggle in America. It's like Nicole's sister said, "Have we gone back one-hundred years?" It sure feels like it.

The part that makes me incoherent with rage is the way Republicans are co-opting the word "Feminism" and changing it to mean something different. I can take her for what she is. I don't agree with her on major issues, but I can accept that. What I cannot accept is having her as the poster child for modern feminism. I'm also deeply insulted that people expect me to vote for her simply because she is a woman.

I actually had a co-worker who was all excited about Palin. He was posting things about her around the office and emailing jokes in support of her. Until me and another female co-worker sounded off about our deep disgust for her and her policies. His tune changed really quick. He went from "my girl Sarah!" to "I don't think I'm even gonna vote..."

And that brings up another point. There was a commentator who actually said that Sarah Palin would be a good vice president because he could trust her to look after his kids and he wouldn't mind waking up next to her. WTF???
