"Phoenix. Take a look at this."

Phoenix immediately stopped what he was doing when Captain Talon called him over. Setting aside the rope he'd been coiling, he joined the older man at the front of the ship and took the spyglass that was offered. It didn't take long to spot what had caught the captain's interest.

"That's a mainland ship," he murmured. "What is it doing out here?"

Talon didn't comment on how easily his first mate was able to identify a ship's type and origin. He rarely asked questions at all, in fact, for which Phoenix was eternally grateful.

"Doesn't matter," Talon said with a smirk. "But I bet it's got something worth gettin' a look at. How 'bout it, boys?" he called out, raising his voice to be heard by all. "You lot up for a party?"

Cheers of enthusiasm met the question. Talon grinned fiercely at the response, then started barking orders. And Phoenix...

Phoenix was grinning, too.

When she got to the Brink what would she do first? She couldn't just jump into a situation and ask for the captain with the ponytail and the goatee. People would look at her as strange as she'd already had to suffer through before. What could she say, though? It all came down to finding Phoenix ( ... )

But Captain Talon was a canny pirate, and he did not attack head on. He took the ship, the Phantom Blade, into a bank of clouds - a move that would blind them, but would also mask their approach - and headed straight to intercept the other ship's course. It was a risky move, and depended on the other ship not spotting them first, but it was one that had paid off time and time again.

Their luck was with them. The Hellcat was right where they predicted. Phoenix's grin turned decidedly fierce as he imagined the panic the other pilot must be feeling. A Hellcat was large for a personal ship, but it was like a moth compared to the Phantom Blade. For a ship this size to suddenly appear out of nowhere...

"Phoenix, Kard! Get the grapples on that ship, now!"

Talon's orders snapped him out of his thoughts. "Yes, sir!"

"Aye aye, cap'n!"

And moments later, grapples were shooting out to latch onto Ashelin's ship.

Panic wasn't a word Ashelin really knew well. Most of the time anything that became panic transformed into pure irritation. The idea of an overwhelming ship coming in after her was just aggravating. She didn't even have ample time to maneuver her way out of the situation. There wasn't much room on the Hellcat to really sneak into a crevice and pop out to catch her opposition by surprise.

She was going to do her best though, before she had to give in. Like hell she'd go down without a fight. Whoever was on the other side of the line didn't know they were dealing with Ashelin Praxis. In hindsight, no one in the Brink was going to know who she was. She assumed the KG didn't go out that far and she'd look drastically different from anyone there ( ... )
