I got up at five and headed for the river. In two months the longest white water race in the world is going to be held there. There is only one problem-Perth has not had any rain so there is no white water. This means that when you come to a section of the river that's dry, you have to pick up your boat and run with it. Dear Gabby;

yes it has been cold here-it got below zero the other morning. In 2000 i spent the Russian winter in Siberia. Was outside in minus 36 one night. It was a particularly warm winter that year.

A lot of the serious competitors for the race will probably buy second hand plastic boats because they can drag them over the rocks and not worry about the damage. The really fast boats weigh about 9 kilo's and cost a heaps. There is one woman who fly's past me every morning-I swear she must be doing 20 knots.

I was good at my job and I will miss it. But there are other things for me to do: I have to finish my web site; I still haven't really made my house mine again after my ex-wife left me. So there are plenty of things to fill in my time.

How are things going over there. Thanks for the words of encouragement too-your sentitments eased my mind considerably.

Dear Lacey

a lot of people will opt for plastic boats so that they can drag them over the rocks. I have two kayaks-but both are too long for the race; not to mention too heavy for this year.
