ATWT nominated for best writing? Seriously, I can't.
I know that some people are shocked and having WTF thoughts about Days of our Lives being nominated for best writing, and I know I am a little, what with the fake Rafe storyline, that insane bullshit that was the prison "stolen organ" storyline involving Jennifer's heart which became absolutely ridiculous with no sense in any kind of sane reality and all. But I'm even more perplexed about As the World Turns' nomination.
Sorry, but if ATWT wins an award for best writing, then that just proves yet again that the daytime drama industry has no problem repeatedly rewarding failure. There are so many reasons why the show lacked in quality for the last 3-4 years it was on the air. The writing and story direction was the biggest problem. Where do I begin? Using plot-driven material instead of ones based on character, even if it means completely destroying characters (oh hai there Adam Munson, I see you too Vienna Hyatt) and blatantly changing show history in order to get through storylines, continually shoving newbies down the characters throats instead of using the characters the show had, removing the spine and integrity of most of their female characters, keeping a big supercouple like Jack and Carly apart for more than 3 years, and don't get me started on the mess that was the ending of Luke and Noah's storyline. If someone watched the show and then saw the late Douglas Marland's classic list on how not to wreck a show, you'd see they violated nearly all of that really solid advice. Like, it should have been hanging in BIG, BOLD print letters in Chris Goutman and Jean Passanante's offices.
On the other side of it, I'm happy for the actors being nominated and possibly winning awards (I personally felt Van was robbed each time he lost out on an award, the man is that good), because they are the ones that made the show worth sticking around for. Though I'll admit, as a DOOL fan I'm crossing fingers for Chandler Massey and James Scott. Even though I HATE EJ, James plays the character really well. However, I wouldn't let JP write me a grocery list at this point let alone head write a television show. Hoping she doesn't get another writing job in this business after OLTL is through. Because personally, I wouldn't wish this kind of story direction on any fan.
