What do you want? What are your objectives? Let's say there are animal objectives, the obvious ones being eating and reproducing. Those are "instincts." Then there are concious objectives, like curing a disease, saving lives, being well-liked. I've already touched on the difficulty of discovering your objectives. I think you can have your fundamental values changed over time- conciously..sort of.. Not in one quick step such as "Oh yeah, I don't like sex anymore..wow..Time to stop that". I think it's more of a slow process of new information coming in and influences which cause you to change your behaviour. (Loved one has different views/need to change to survive as your base animal self comes out).

Is that sometimes people also like "self decieve" themselves into thinking a fundamental objective isn't what they want because of someone they're with..Then they wake up one day and get a divorce.

yes, to discover your true objectives is a great challenge, and even then you cannot know for certain that you are right. too bad

that's why the safest bet seems to always be that which makes you happiest...at least most of the time..common sense/rational thought/thought for others has to come in there somewhere, but making numero uno happy should help people line up their objectives.
