2011 marks ten years that I’ve been on LiveJournal and that is ridiculous. Some of you have known me since I was fourteen and I hope you don’t hold it against me

Those self portraits are amazing. I'm a huge sucker for anything toned paper, and you've made all the shading and highlights that you've done so smooth looking!
I have one of those brown recycled paper sketchbooks but I don't think I've ever used it, actually. SKECTHBOOKS MAKE ME NERVOUS, IT'S LIKE THE PAGES ARE FULL OF EXPECTATIONS
But my most favorite toned paper to use is Canson Mi-Teintes, though I don't ever have reason to go buy it anymore.
Briscodo is still a joy to me. The coloured pencil on coloured paper work reminds me of the style a friend of mine uses for her Ben Linus fanart: http://somethingtookish.org/FART.html She is pretty amazing and as you can see she likes her red-ink blood splatters. (I wish I could get her into Star Trek because she'd draw amazing androids and Cardassians and things but I don't think it will ever be her bag, alas.) But she doesn't have a casual carefree approach to art either - and I think most of the people who produce work I like don't, because they are meticulous and detail-oriented and will spend ages getting the balance right between the reflections on the lenses of tiny sad Ben's glasses and the reflections on the tears in his eyes.
I've looked at her stuff before and I like it a lot! Technically excellent, of course, and I also really enjoy her style.
One of my professors once said, in reference to a still life of mine that was up for critique, that calling me meticulous is like calling Hitler a grumpy old man
