Once again, a friendly reminder to lower-48 eBay sellers: Alaska IS part of the United States. We're not a foreign country, possession, or 'little island down by Hawaii'. You don't have to have a passport to get in, and we even speak English ( Read more... )

I learned the hard way that if someone buys your item from Hawaii or Alaska you will get murdered on shipping. That is, unless you can use a flat rate box.

Flat rate boxes are the trick. I did a lot of Ebaying awhile back and that was my secrete to shipping out of Alaska everywhere.

What I just love is getting the n00b ebay sellers who advertise "free" shipping to anywhere in the CONTINENTAL United States. Then I not-so-gently remind them that Alaska is part of the CONTINENT of North America and if they try that "but it's more expensive to ship there so you should pay me $10 extra even though I advertised FREE shipping" one more time, I would report them to ebay AND the Better Business Bureau AND their local law enforcement.

I really don't know what a cop would do with that kind of complaint, but it sure as heck gets people to ship me my stuff. :-D heheh
