Summer is here.

I've stopped wearing dress clothes to work. They're too hot and whether or not I'm wearing a tie is of no consequence. The time for impressing my employers is over, anyway ( Read more... )

No one has tried to stick his finger up your butt, though?

Well, there was this one time, but that was the only time it has happened to me. It's happened to my wife once too.

Tong jim is definitely something we're both glad to have experienced only once, but we would have preferred to have been spared the experience altogether. I don't get how it passes for humour here, but then I don't understand Korean comedy in general either, which is really heavy on slapstick. I would say it lacks sarcasm and irony, but I don't speak Korean so I wouldn't be able to tell you if there Korean comedy exists with subtle humour. I'd doubt it, though.

Oh yeah, the finger-up-the-butting. I remember that.

You said wife!!! Eeek! Does that mean you are Joanne's husband?

Yup. Girlfriend isn't really the right term anymore now that we're married.

Ah the Asian fascination with "Western" bodies, how I remember it. How I remember having to watch carefully on all sides that no child was coming up to fondle your rear or legs or any part of your body. However, I found the clothing all too short for my legs (needing a 34" inseam) and surprisingly I have found pants in Canada for as low as $7 new. Hurray for the Gap's clearance section.

Hey, I take a 34" inseam too. Maybe they're a bit taller in S.Korea?

I hate Gap pants. They don't have 31-34s, only 32-34s that are too baggy on me and 31-32s that are too short. I had a friend who worked there who was able to hook me up with a sweet deal on Gap clothes, and it drove me crazy that I couldn't take full advantage of it because none of their pants fit.

You don't happen to still have a friend that can hook a friend up with sweet deals, do you? I usually wear a 32/33 waist, so they work for me.

PS: I just found your reply because my email provider decided that LJ comments were clearly spam and had moved them to the trash :(

Sorry I can't hook you up. Although my friend is probably still working at the Gap, the Gap she works at is in Winnipeg. That's probably too far to go for cheap pants.

I can't wait to get back to North America. I don't know how things were for you in Taiwan, but here in Korea the months of July and August are the time when mold covers EVERYTHING. All of my my nicest clothes are slowly falling victim to the green fuzzy menace.
