Not a lot of people will read this, but that's okay because I will feel better for just typing this and getting it out there. It's kinda longish, but less ranty than I thought it would be.
I'm very cynical about this season, which is sad, because I was encouraged when Carver was named show runner. If Sam talked to Dean about what he was feeling when Dean left then they would have to let us, the audience, know and we might even have reason to sympathize with Sam and for some reason they don't want that, at least right now. Maybe they are planning a twist. Maybe they really think that "we had a pact, I didn't have any clues, I didn't have help" is enough explanation and Sam doesn't have anything to tell Dean that he hasn't already said. Maybe they are planning on having Dean break in a particularly ugly way that would be unforgivable if Sam weren't MORE unforgivable because he left Dean feeling unloved. Perhaps they intend Sam to be the coward who doesn't love his brother. I have no idea, but my patience and interest in the show is rapidly running out.
I know what you mean. There are a lot of possible ways they can handle this, and I'm hoping that the one they choose is a good one. I do feel like we did see a step in the right direction this episode, but it was a very small one, and it was really only something that we saw as an audience. It doesn't mean much if Dean isn't in on it, too. I'm holding out hope that there's more to Sam's behavior than we've seen and that we will find out more (and sooner rather than later.) :\
I rewatched episode during my lunch break today to get a better feel over it. I still hate Amelia & sam. There is Just NOOOOO chemistry there and while I love me some Jared--his Sam is coming across majorly FLAT to me. Even the welcome home hug they shared in 8x1. Jared just DID NOT sell his sammy gets his brother back ...anyhoot--I totally agree. I flashback scenes seem to be dragging for the drama factor alone. IF SPN was uber smart--I was HOping that there was more to Sams story---but nope, seems he just gave up and landed an ugly neurotic chick. @@
I was hoping to discover that he had been in some mental hospital during the first half of the year before he hit the dog...SOMETHING to make us feel sympathetic towards him. Cause honestly, Im totally getting where Dean is coming from right now and I have always been Bi-bro.
I'm trying to give Sam the benefit of the doubt. We know that Sam loves his brother, we've seen it before. He tried to trade places with him in Hell. Told him time and again that he looks up to him. I know Sam loves him, but it's hard to remember that when he won't talk to Dean about what happened to him. I'm hoping we'll learn more about what he went through as time goes on and that Carver is just taking his sweet time dragging this out because it's building to something epic. It HAS TO build up to something epic at this point, or it's not going to make sense.
Either way, Sam really needs to talk to Dean, because I'm finding it very hard to watch Sam not tell his brother anything when Dean is clearly so hurt by the entire situation. :(
I am actually more hopeful after the last 2 eps than I was in the beginning...I am starting to believe that Sam became a basket case when Dean vanished, and I see him being drawn to Amelia because maybe he can fix her damaged psyche because he can't fix his own. Let's face it, she's not the type of woman he is attracted to--Jess, Sarah, Madison were all very 'together'--and I think we're supposed to get the vibe that he's settling because of his own brokenness.
But I hear you when you say TALK TO EACH OTHER because that is what I am screaming at my TV as well. I do not understand why Sam can't tell Dean he fell apart and couldn't function, instead of implying that he found a rosy non-hunting life.
I better get one heck of a reconcilation out of this angst!!!
