He rushed down the corridor till he accidently bumped into someone.
“Ahh I’m sorry,” Yamada bowed slightly before running off again.
Where was that guy?
He stopped at their classroom and checked inside for the small figure but he wasn’t there. He needed to talk to Chinen.
“Hey!” a tall figure made his way to the door of the classroom.
“Yuto!”
“Are you ok Yamada?”
“Have you seen Chinen?”
“No. Why? Is something wrong with Chii?” The look on Yamada’s face was slightly worrying.
“Did you say there was something wrong with Chii?”
Yamada turned to the voice that came from behind him and saw the guy he bumped into earlier. He was just slightly smaller than Yuto and had black hair that framed his face.
“Ryu!” Yuto exclaimed.
“Did I hear correct? Is something wrong with Chii?” the guy asked again, piercing Yamada with an accusing stare. Who was this person? It slightly annoyed Yamada the way he acted.
“Well there’s nothing really wrong with him- well I hope so,” Yamada said to Yuto, purposely ignoring the presence behind him, “It’s just that he started saying stuff like he never wants to have anything to do with me than he ran off.”
“Were you annoying him again?” Yuto asked, crossing his arms.
“No I wasn’t, not really. The thing is it wasn’t like when he’s just annoyed at me, he seemed serious. It was different…” His voice trailed off as he remembered the scene.
“Ryu?” A cute voice came from behind that made Yamada turn instantly, knowing exactly whom it came from. He was about to say something but stopped when he saw Chinen hugging the other guy tightly, a big smile on his face. When they pulled back, they started talking excitedly to each other.
“It’s been ages… How are you?”
“Great! How about you?”
“…Good,” Chinen replied with a smile though Yamada noticed the slight hesitation before he answered. He also noticed the redness of the younger’s eyes. There was no doubt he had been crying. But why? Yamada thought to himself. It worried him as well as irritated him not knowing what was going on with Chii.
Avoiding Yamada at the door, Chinen dragged the boy into the classroom, clinging onto the guy’s arm, his whole attention focused on him.
“So you’re coming back here to this school?”
“Yeah… My dad decided that home schooling wasn’t really for me.”
Yuto tapped Yamada’s back, as he just continued to stare after the pair, and gestured that they should go to their seats. Yamada nodded and went over to his desk, deciding to not approach Chinen for now but thinking that he definitely will at break.
------------------//////-------------------------------
However, when break had come and Yamada looked up, he had just managed to catch the sight of Chinen rushing off. As a sigh escaped his lips, Yuto next to him gave him an encouraging smile, “We have lunch time ne.”
The elder nodded as he stood up and went to the window, to catch some fresh air, his mind seemed to be too crowded. Over and over the scene at the rooftop from this morning replayed. The same dead look in the younger’s face and the strangled tone to his voice. It tugged at him continuously.
----------------///////----------------
Lunch came faster than he expected and again Chinen and the other guy, Morimoto, had disappeared. Yamada banged his hand against his table in annoyance. Why was Chinen ignoring him?
“Hmm… he really seems to be avoiding you…” Yuto stated as he looked over at Yamada, “What exactly happened again?”
“Well I saw him at the rooftop this morning and I greeted him but he ignored me and purposely faced the other way. So I went over to make him face me but when I did he said that he-“ Yamada stopped as a sudden wave of realisation hit him. Chinen said he didn’t want to be his maid anymore.
“Ahem.”
Yamada almost forgot about Yuto who was next to him and who was also waiting for him to continue the story. He gave a small apologetic smile. “I’m sorry I need to go and find Chii.”
Yuto smiled after the guy as he rushed out of the classroom. For some time he had a feeling about the pair, about their relationship and feelings for each other. He just hoped it ended well…
----------------/////----------------------------------
Yamada felt a strange sense of deja vu as he ran around the school looking for Chinen and bumped, once again, into someone.
“Sou! Have you seen Chinen?”
“Umm… I think I saw him go up to the rooftop with-“ Sou was stopped as Yamada quickly thanked him before rushing off, “With the new kid Morimoto…”
Yamada was filled with a new energy as he bounded up the stairs. He was going to make sure that Chinen would hear what he has to say. As he neared the rooftop, he took a deep breath before pushing on the heavy doors but only to witness the scene of Chinen kissing Ryutaro on the cheek. He felt his heart tighten at the sight. Then without thinking he felt his body move towards the two, push Morimoto away and grab hold of Chinen’s wrist.
For a second all he heard was his panting, until he realised what he had just done.
“What are you doing?!!” Chinen yelled at Yamada, pulling his wrist away from the elder’s grasp.
Yamada just stared at the two, also slightly shocked with what he did. He ran away from the pair and down back to the classroom, his heart beating hard.
“I’m sorry Ryu-chan,” Chii said, going over to see if he was ok, “I seriously don’t know what’s wrong with that guy…”
Morimoto just continued to stare at the door Yamada ran out, his brows furrowed in thought when a sly grin appeared on his face. Hmmm… you may not know Chii but I’m pretty sure I do, the guy thought.
-------------------///////////---------------------
As Yamada entered the classroom, he walked over and slumped on his chair.
“So how did it go?” Yuto asked excitedly.
“I didn’t manage to talk to him,” Yamada answered.
“Oh… Well don’t worry Yamada, next time ne.”
The guy just grunted and crossed his arms, “What’s the relationship between Chinen and that other guy?”
It took some time till Yuto figured that ‘that other guy’ Yamada was referring to was Ryutaro and when he glanced over at the slumped annoyed figure, a small smile showed on his face, “Well they’re childhood friends. They’re very close, even closer than me and Chinen.”
“Are you sure they’re just friends?” Yamada grumbled.
With this question Yuto’s eyebrows raised, “Hmm…Yup, I’m pretty sure they’re just friends. I don’t think they have any romantic feeling for each other- they’re just really close.”
At that moment the pair they were talking about entered the classroom. Chinen felt a warm feeling on his face and when he glanced to his side he caught Yamada staring at him with those dark brown eyes. He felt his face flush and his breath catch. Why? Why would Yamada always have that affect on him? He hated himself for not being able to resist his feelings and hated Yamada for being able to cause this inner turmoil just by these small things. Ryutaro, beside him, noticed the change in Chinen and smirked.
“Hey lets go over and talk to Yuto. I don’t think I even said hello to him today,” he told Chii, who nodded hesitantly. He also realised how he hadn’t talked to his best friend at all today and felt guilty but right next to Yuto, was Yamada. The chibi felt an arm wrap around his shoulders and Ryutaro led him towards the direction of Yuto’s desk.
“Hey Yuto!” he exclaimed.
“Hi Ryu. Thought you forgot about me. You too Chii.”
“No of course not. It’s just I was too happy and had to catch up with my adorable squirrel,” Ryu said with a big smile, hugging Chinen closer to him. As he said those words, he saw Yuto’s sideward glance to the figure next him and had to stop himself from laughing. Even Yuto could see what was going on between the two. Also observing the sour look on Yamada’s face, Ryutaro knew it wouldn’t take too long till the guy would snap.
“Mou, Ryu-chan, I told you to stop calling me that,” Chinen complained, pouting cutely.
Ryu chuckled and started pinching the younger’s cheeks, “But you really are like a squirrel- my adorable little squirrel.”
Yamada pushed his chair back and stood up, his hands on his desk and looking at the pair like he wanted to say something.
“Oh hey, I don’t think I’ve introduced myself,” Ryutaro said, smiling innocently at the guy, “I’m Morimoto Ryutaro and you are?”
For a few seconds silent tension filled the air as Yamada just stared at Ryutaro before him, who also just kept smiling back. Inside he just felt like marching over to the guy and pulling Chinen away from him but he then remembered that he really had no right to since he was nothing to Chii anymore. Unlike Ryutaro, who was the younger’s closest friend, who was Yamada?
Instead of answering, hee sat back down on his chair, crossing his arms again and looked the other way. This irritated Chinen slightly and he had the urge to call on the elder like he would before, especially when no one else said a thing but he just bit his tongue. He was supposed to be ignoring Yamada. Eventhough for the whole time they had been there, all he could think of was Yamada’s presence.
Yuto saw the way Chinen was looking at the guy next to him, like he wanted to say something, making him smile. He could just imagine Chinen wanting to scold the guy about manners and his 'massive ego'.
“Well I guess he doesn't feel like telling me so -Chii, why don’t you tell me his name instead,” Ryutaro said.
The younger looked up to his best friends face, his eyes wide, “Umm… Me? Well… umm… his name is Yamada Ryosuke…” He mumbled as he said the last words, looking down shyly.
“Oh well Yamada-san, it was nice meeting you,” he said, with an underlying sarcastic tone before turning to Yuto and asking if he wanted to go out that afternoon with him and Chinen.
Yuto replied with a smile, “Sure- I’d love to! Hey Yamada, you’re coming right?”
This was met with an annoyed and confused look by the elder but Yuto gave him a just-do-what-I-say-or-you’ll-regret-it look and ended up agreeing to the plans. On the other hand, Chinen was wishing that Yamada refused as well as wanting to hit the bamboo stick with a bamboo stick for even making the offer. However, nothing could be done when Yamada nodded and the younger just sighed to himself. He couldn’t back out since it was Ryutaro who asked him in the first place, wanting to catch up with each other, so he decided he would just try his best to have fun and ignore Yamada for that night.
Ryutaro smiled down at him, “Great! We’ll have more fun with more people right?”
“That’s what I thought!” Yuto said smiling massively and ignoring Chinen’s glare, “Also I thought it would be great for you to get to know Yamada better Ryu-chan. We’ve actually befriended him these past months and he usually isn’t like this.”
Yamada grunted and rolled his eyes. He wouldn't have gone if it wasn't for Yuto. He didn't want to tag along to an afternoon, where Chinen and Ryutaro would be acting all cutesy and close in front of him.
“Ok then. We’ll go afterschool.”
Chii just gave a big smile of excitement though he really was dreading it. He didn't know what to do now Yamada was coming.
