Summary: Should Yamada tell Chinen?

“Yo Yuri!!” a young boy yelled from across the hallway.

“Oh Hey.”

Chinen Yuri and Yamada Ryosuke were very close friends and everyone knew it.

“Oh yeah Ryosuke I found out about this really good cake shop in town. Do you want to go after school?” Chinen asked, knowing how much of a pig Yamada was.

“Hai!! ” Yamada said excitedly, making Chii laugh to himself.

“Knew you wouldn’t say no. Yama- BUTA!!”

“Hey don’t you call me that! “ Yamada shouted chasing Chinen around the classroom, while their classmates watched on laughing at the two best friends. Yamada caught Chii around the neck and started messing the little boy’s hair.

“Excuse me.”

Both Yamada and Chinen stopped and turned around to see Ito Miria, a girl from another class that was also a friend of Yamada’s, standing at the doorway.

“Sorry I seemed to have interrupted you two,” she said smiling, “But Yamada-kun, I need to talk to you.”
Yamada let go of Chinen and followed Miria into the hallway. She stood there silently, playing with her fingers.

“So… You had something to say me?” Yamada prompted her.

“Well…. Um… Yamada-kun, you’re close with Chinen-san right?”

“Yes. Why?” For some reason Yamada was getting a very bad feeling.

“Can you ask him to meet me by the flower garden after school?”

What? Why would she want to meet Chinen?

“Yeah sure…” Yamada said uncertainly, “But why do you want to meet with him?”

“Well… I’m going to confess to him,” she told him hurriedly, blushing. “Anyway I’ll leave it to you. Bye.”

Yamada felt his heart drop. He couldn’t do this. He would be happy to do anything for Miria, as she was a close friend but not this. Even though everyone knew how close the two were, no one knew about his feelings, feelings that slowly grew, as he became friends with the adorable little guy. They became so strong that it pained Yamada to keep it in. How could he help Miria, when he also loved Chinen? However, he knew that he couldn’t keep it from Chii- that would be selfish. It would be selfish to Miria and also to the one he loved.

“Hey, Ryosuke! So what did Ito-san want?” Chii asked popping his head around the doorway.

Yamada stared at Chii, his throat dry.

“What?” Chii said self-consciously.

Yamada took a deep breath and managed to weakly tell Chinen that Miria wanted to meet with him after school.

“Ok… Oh wait I thought we were going to the cake shop after school today?”
Chii thought to himself, “I know just wait for me- it shouldn’t take long anyway.”

Yamada just nodded as he watched Chii go into the classroom.

For the rest of the day Yamada was acting really out of it. He was dreading when school would end but it soon came faster than he imagined.

“Ok. I’ll go and talk to Ito-san now so just wait for me here,” Chii rushed off down to the garden.

Yamada watched as everyone slowly filed out of class till he was the only one left sat there in the room. He wondered if Miria had already confessed. His heart clenched at the thought of Chinen accepting but then again why wouldn’t he? It wouldn’t be hard to imagine that maybe Chinen did like her back. Miria was popular, pretty and kind, a perfect girl. Everyone in the school would agree that they would be a cute couple- even he did. Secretly inside there was this little part which was hoping that Chinen would say no but he knew it was wrong and for some reason there also was another part of him that didn’t believe in it at all. Anyway, even if Chinen rejects Miria’s confession it’s not like anything would change- he’d still have to keep his feelings hidden and continue being just friends. He knew his feelings were one sided. He’d long acknowledged the fact that his love would never be the one accepted. Yamada buried his face in his arms. He couldn’t face Chinen right then. There was something in him that was slowly breaking. Picking his bag up, he rushed out of the classroom.
------------
"Hey Ryosuke!!"

Yamada continued to talk with his other classmates pretending that he didn’t hear, though he heard that familiar voice so clearly.
When he had got home last night he rushed upstairs into his room, excusing that he was feeling quite ill. It wasn’t far from the truth- he really did feel dreadful. As expected, he got texts from Chii asking where he was and why he didn’t wait for him. He answered them as he normally would but it took longer and seemed so much harder. When he couldn’t even answer the call from Chinen, he knew he had to do something and right then decided. It would be hard and hurt him more than now but he knew it was the right thing to do. Yamada knew that he had to try and distance himself from Chinen. He needed to try and learn how to bottle up these feelings so that it wouldn’t affect the two and their friendship, which he treasured.

“Ryosuke,” Chinen started poking his arm.

“Yeah Chii. Just wait a sec.” Yamada answered, without diverting his attention to the conversation he was in. The younger guy nodded and went to his desk.

When he knew that it was safe, Yamada watched Chinen by the corner of his eye. It felt so wrong. Ignoring the younger guy and letting him go off. Then he saw Chii look up as if someone called him. As he followed where Chinen’s eyes were directed, Yamada felt his heart crush again. It was Miria. She waved at Chinen and he walked over to her smiling. He was right. They looked perfect for each other, so perfect for each other… Quickly, Yamada turned away from the scene. It hurt him so much. Just to see them two together talking, smiling. How could he continue being friends with Chii, if only this simple thing felt like someone was stabbing his heart?

Throughout that morning Yamada had done his best to stay away from his best friend without making it to obvious. It was lunchtime. He sat next to Chinen as usual but was mindful of not making contact with the other guy.

“Chinen!”

The whole table turned their attention to Miria who was walking across the cafeteria towards their table.

“Ito,” Chii waved at her.

Yamada noticed how Chinen didn’t use ‘san’ anymore.

She greeted everyone at the table and then walked to where Chinen was sitting.
Yamada looked away and stared at the window to his right as if he found something extremely fascinating. He didn’t want to see this right now. However, he could still hear them and he felt like piece of his heart was slowly being torn. As he continued to concentrate at everything but them, Yamada didn’t realise how he had been biting his lip and clenching his hands into fists this whole time. He couldn’t take it anymore and he suddenly stood up.

"Hey Ryosuke are you alright?”

'Ryosuke'

Yamada didn’t trust himself to speak. Instead he ran out of the cafeteria just as he felt tears drop. He continued to run till he felt like he could no longer breathe, tears sliding down his face. He didn’t think this love would be so hard and would hurt him so much. He didn't think at all...

It's such a fail but I decided I'll just post it since I wrote it already.
