But how would it move? I, Tyrant (one of the best if least-known supplements ever written for D&D) specifically indicated that beholder motility is due to varying levels of lighter-than-air gas!

It's in space, so it can use it's TK eye to move itself around.

But according to Spelljammer, it maintains its own personal gravity plane! Okay, I admit it, I'm just citing extremely obscure rules just for the sake of doing so. (And dropping reference to I, Tyrant. That supplement was distilled awesome.)
