London's burning. There aren't enough police, firemen, anything. It would appear, not enough regular or Territorial Army to back up. Just watched the littlest fire engine that could try to single handedly put massive fire in Croydon out. Am watching BBC online. Watching twitter #londonriots going off. Glued to facebook feed to see that my friends

Doing my best. I keep saying this - I count myself very lucky. We're kind of surrounded by hot spots but our spot is okay. We have no cool shops.

Thinking of you all, stay safe. Just checked the guardian website, and the piccies are horrific. Also thinking a lot about less well off people living in the flats above the shops the looters are targeting.

I worry - they would have had little or no insurance. And having been in flats like that, fire escapes are not good. There is often only one way out which is through the back of the shops on fire. Not good.

One of the images we've seen over here, which the news sites are saying is likely to become one of the iconic images of the situation, shows a woman jumping from what looks like a flat over a burning shop, towards a group of firemen reaching up toward her. I can send it to you if you like, but I also saw it first on the guardian site.
