1. ARTICLE FROM JAMES HART INTERVIEW THAT MENTIONS NEAL AS PART OF HIS BAND.
PV: Will you be touring in promotion for the album? If so, are you going to just have touring musicians back you or are you going to assemble a full-time band?
Hart: Absolutely. That is why I am doing this. I love making music and being on stage. Sharing the live experience with people. I'm not just trying to release and sell albums just to satisfy my artistic nature. Isn't a let down when you get a great album, love the songs, feel the music, but the artist doesn't tour. I certainly think so.
As for the players, I will hire a touring band. I already have Dr. Neal Tiemann slated to play lead guitar. He is an amazing talent. I will also fill the rythym, bass and drum positions as well with musicians I feel are hard working with great spirit and attitude as well as talented at their respective instrument. It may be a full-time band that tours with me from album to album. It would be the type of band you would see backing Chris Cornell or something.
PV: What was it like working with Zac Maloy and creating an album in Oklahoma?
Hart: It was such a great and refreshing expecience. Zac is a great writer with amazing ideas and understanding for music. This was so different for me. In a good way. We would both just sit with acoustic guitars and build a song from the ground up. Bouncing ideas off each other. Back and forth. Finishing each others lyrical lines and vocal melodies. It was great. It was nice to get away from home. You know, clear my head. I wouldn't have it any other way.
PV: What did you do in your downtime over there? It’s a world away from LA in terms of lifestyle, I’d imagine.
Hart: I'm not into the quick pace of LA. Orange County is fast too, but I keep to myself. I don't go out a lot. I like my private time. So it was a lot of the same over there. I didn't have a ton of free time either. We were always working. I always made time for football on Saturdays and Sundays. I would always make time to go watch Dr. Neal play at the local pubs. I spent a lot of time with Neal. He is an amazing person with a winning attitude. Not to mention a great player and writer. I met a lot of cool people through Neal. Zac's family was great too. Tulsa is my home away from home now.
PV: What songs did Keith work on with you? Do any other 18V members make guest appearances?
Hart: Before 18V broke up we were writing and demoing new material. I loved a couple of the ballads he had. The rockers were great too, but they were a little too 18V for me. The rest of his stuff ended up on the Never Enough album I believe. There was this melodic ballad type song he had that I wrote to called "Fallin Faster." I took it to Tulsa and we tuned up the guitars and Neal played a very cool lead over the chorus making it a little edgier. It came out great. Keith doesn't play on the album, but his creative spirit is there with the song. None of the other members appear on the album or have any songs on the album.

Modern Rock (

Hometown:
Tulsa, Oklahoma Formed summer 2002, MWK had been the longtime dream of guitarist/songwriter Neal Tiemann. It wasn't until that summer 2002 when Neal found the right musicians to fully realize his dream. At the time of conception, the band was still in high school and college. The members are: Andy Skib (lead vox, guitar, 17), the quiet yet commanding frontman, whom the crowd turns to a screaming mass when he opens his mouth. Neal Tiemann (guitar, backup vox, 19), a guitarist like none other, he pulls influences from Zakk Wylde to Bjork and his show stopping solos are a staple of MWk shows. Justin Briggs( bass, backup vox, 20), is the energy behind MWK, constantly pushing the intensity of MWK shows to explosive potential and Robby Merrick (drums, 21) more than just the timekeeper, Robby's performance on drums is one to remember. From the commanding presence yet soft spokenness of their front man Andy Skib, to the punk-like energy of Neal and Justin, to the skin beating fury of Robby, their live show is something to see. After a year of about 100 live shows in three states, the guys, now a year older and much the wiser, are branching out. With a debut independant release and tours planned for fall and spring... get ready for MWK.

May 29, 2003 -
Conducted by: S. Loupe
• Who are you and what instrument do you play?
Neal: I'm Neal Tiemann, Guitar.
Robby: I'm Robby and I play drums.
Andy: My name is Andy Skib and I sing and play guitar in a band called MWK.
Justin: I am Justin Briggs, I play bass in MWK.
• How did you come up with the band name?
Andy: Well, the band name, just like much of the music in MWK, comes from the incredibly strange mind of Neal Tiemann.
Neal: I made up the name because we needed something to explain the acronym, MWK.
Justin: Neal came up with it while we were at a studio in Sapulpa as the goofy name for a side project, and the ongoing joke just stuck.
• Who inspires you the most?
Robby: My family.
Neal: Bjork inspires me the most.
Andy: Any musician or performer with a luring presence on stage inspires me to perform.
Justin: No one person inspires me. When someone does something really extraordinary then I'm inspired.
• Describe your music style.
Andy: Our musical style, in my mind, is hard to describe. I would say that we play rock music with songs tat are able to be played in different ways because of the lyrics and melodies. Just about every one of our songs sounds great either live with the full band or just played with an acoustic guitar.
Robby: Rock with a different edge to it; more diverse rock.
• Define music in one sentence.
Justin: Music is the display of human emotions through musical instruments.
Andy: Music is a bunch of different sounds that gravitates people together.
Neal: The ultimate power, it drops you and lifts you at the same time.
Robby: It is sounds that make you have emotion.
• We ask every band this, do you like pineapple?
Neal: I love pineapple.
Robby: Nope.
Andy: Pineapples rule.
Justin: Yes, especially the pineapple chunks in a can. But not on pizza.
• What bands do you like that everyone else thinks is lame?
Robby: Aerosmith, pop, R&B, and stuff.
Andy: Nickel Creek, String, and James Taylor are the only ones I can think of.
Justin: I don't know who everyone else thinks is lame, but I like Silverchair, Tool, Injected, and Caroline's Spine. If everyone else thinks that they are lame, well that's really sad. No, just kidding, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Neal: I like Avril Lavigne, techno, and Alanis Morisette.
• Are there any great unsigned bands that you would like the rest of the public to know about?
Justin: New Science.
Neal: New Science, Big Hate, and Kenna.
Robby: Us, and a band called New Science in Tulsa
Andy: Revis is a good band. They are getting pretty popular in the U.S. and I've seen them twice in Tulsa.
• What CD's do you currently have in your CD player?
Andy: Pearl Jam. I just got off of a long round of Silverchair, but right now it's mostly Revis and Pearl Jam.
Neal: The White Stripes, Coldplay, and Black Label Society.
Justin: Silverchair, Tool, Injected, Caroline's Spine, Our Lady Peace, Maroon 5, and Pearl Jam.
Andy: New Science.
• Any profound words of wisdom?
Neal: Don't take for granted characters in video games; they die so you don't have to.
Andy: Stay in school, unless you're in a band.
Justin: If you are going to do something, go all the way, don't hold back.

6. TULSA WORLD ARTICLE
MidWest Kings
Tulsa, Oklahoma
Band Members ANDY SKIB - VOCAL/GUITAR
NEAL TIEMANN - GUITAR/SONGSMITH
JOSH CENTER - DRUMS
The local rock band Midwest Kings has been knocking on the door to fame since at least its second album, 2004's "Judging a Bullet." Somebody had better be listening now.
Since then, the band has made some trips to the coasts, playing gigs for record-label types but no dice.
But the Kings' six-shot EP, "Incoherent With Desire to Move On," aims straight for the heart. They released it Friday in a celebration and video shoot at the Blue Dome with Citizen Mundi.
The quartet, featuring a newer rhythm section, enlisted knob-turner/pop genius Zac Maloy to produce this EP. Maloy, the former Nixons' singer, left behind his unmistakable pop sheen that helped bigger acts such as Bowling For Soup land a hefty radio audience.
The Kings' are a loud power-chord rock band, and on this EP, the band mixes its bombast with artful lyrics and, dare I say it, melody, nay, even a bridge or two. The songs are jam-packed with catchy, guitar driven choruses from the band, which sounds like its members have been playing together for years.
Maloy co-wrote four songs on the EP with the band's principal songwriter, guitarist/backing vocalist Neal Tiemann.
"One True Thing," the second song, is uncommonly good songwriting. Lead vocalist/guitarist Andy Skib shows the listener a man searching for a smidgen of unsullied truth like a melody he can sing or a breath he can take.
Skib sings in the first verse "I could say that I'm all right/I think that's what you want to hear/But every time I step out of this door/I just want to reappear somewhere else/A place I made up in my head/Before this world started taking pieces away."
Tiemann's voice sounds appropriately gritty, and the harmonies drive it home during the big-guitar choruses.
Another bright spot in a field of stars is "Killing More Than Time," the requisite 20-something rock-tune about love and alienation.
The guitars are tuneful and massive but don't overpower the songs. The harmonies are tight, and the songs bounce along with a bright energy that evokes today's pop/punk bands.
Bassist David Cook says the band will use Maloy on its next studio album, which he expects to release in about 18 months.
If not this EP, then a full-length album of this caliber will surely make some record-label official's head turn.
You can find the EP online at www.cdbaby.com.
