All right. I have a large stack of emails I'm currently avoiding slogging through atm. This happens frequently actually, on a 2-4 week cycle actually

I think you have the perfect hair to put into rasta braids. :) But really...you've put so much effort into growing it out, I'd hate to see you cut that short so soon (yes I meant to make that pun.) I personally cannot recall if you flinched when I played with your hair, we'll have to see this coming weekend? But one way to get used to something (if you -want- to) is to have it happen over and over again. If you don't -want- to flinch when someone pets your hair...then take a few people you trust and allow them to play with your hair from time to time. Also, if you're worried about the friz, there are products to help with that...I -believe- someone once told me that getting it dyed by the good stuff in salons will give you a more silky look. *shrugs* could be mistaken though....
This would be far easier to discuss with you were you not in Arkansas. As such, i will refrain from weighing in on the matter until you get back to Louisville. Arkansas seems to make everything worse, is my only contribution.
my 2 cents, your hair is beautiful, i love long hair on guys so I am biased. i would however never touch anyone's hair without asking, since I feel similar ways about mine. I love having it touched if the trust is there. So it just seems like you need to work on your trust with people you keep close.
Honey, experiment with your hair. It'll always grow back, so go crazy one day. Shave a side and go around like a skater punk from our high school days. Damn, that made me sound old. Bleach it in streaks, then kool-aid dye it. Whatever you do, have fun with it. That's why I keep mine as long as it is.
As for being on a bit of a self-discovery journey, enjoy the trip. It's gonna suck in places. Won't lie to you, and I expect you to not lie to yourself. You're going to find some ugly things. Please note I didn't call them bad. Sometimes, you need the ugly things to get you through ugly times. There's still far more good than bad or ugly, in the end.
I would suggest trying to think of what past problems you've had with your hair and analyze why you dont like people to touch/pull your hair. People all have their own quirks and if your quirk is you dont like people to touch your hair thats okay. If it really bugs you though I would suggest trying to do something drastic. Having seen your hair I would say dont cut it really short beacuse what happens to curly hair when you cut it short is that it comes back even more frizzled and ragged than before. I would suggest trying to do those treatments you were doing before with your hair, when your mom bought you that special shampoo. Your hair looked great when it was long and you were using that special stuff. Also I would suggest that you should try a hair straightener if you wanna keep it looking straight. I would just really try to look into your actions beacuse you dont want to do something with your hair just to spite your mom that later you'll hate. Maybe going to a professional hair stylest would help?
