since i don't know UK history in depth as i do US history, i cannot say with certainty that this happens with all countries. but, with the passing of time, and distance of what happened will fade. it will take a few generations, but it will happen.

it is a very tragic modern event that took many lives and changed how the world interacts with one another. but, there have been other horrific events that are more dim now that time has distanced them. the attack on pearl harbor (though i have been known to honor that day in my own way)... the alamo, and the massacre there. there has been many events through time that count up there, terroristic attacks or military action. from the holocaust to the columbine shootings, 1st generation will always remember, 2nd generation will honor, 3rd will acknowledge it happened, 4th might give it a thought, and after that, it's in the history books or as some obscure reference ( ... )

I know exactly what you mean, before 9/11 I was just 11 myself and had no idea that there were 'bad people' in the world who would want to do something like that.
