I thought Casino Royale was the James Bond Prequel, his first mission as 007. As well as the concept that "James Bond" is just a codename that's reused by MI5 as new agents join and leave.

Actually on that. One of the most bizarre yet best theories I've heard concerning the different James Bonds?...that he's a Time Lord. So every time we see a new actor playing him he's actually "regenerated".
