For a time I worked in downtown Dallas at Urban Market, a little grocery store designed to cater to those that were expected to move downtown for all the advantages of an urban lifestyle. Charles, this essay came from having read comments and status messages from friends and friendly acquaintances over Florida requiring welfare recipients to pass a drug test that they must pay for out of their own pocket. On the realization that the fear of the day was no longer foreigners, nor terrorists, but instead the evil poor, I'm afraid my temper snapped. Some friends took others to task with me but I found myself with the need to write this and challenge their personal definitions and truisms.

If there is one thing I love about living now, is that I have knowledge that I am not alone in my beliefs, that other people have noted the same, and that those people will point out when I've ignored some data. For this, sir, I think you.

But, yeah, I really need to get away from Texas and into a more civilized environment.
