I am so sad to watch this place die. I gave up after a mini-strike of several months off of FB, when I realized that I missed several events that invites only went out via facebook, I had to go back, and that sucks.
I don't write as much here as I used to, but I think that's more about life changes - Bob, work demands, life demands have all resulted in less time to sit here and write. I'm assuming it's the same for a lot of people, and for the people who don't relate to that, it's too boring and FB is the next big thing, Bleah.
I, too, am sad to see this place die. But twitter and facebook are simply not a replacement for the longer form of communicating usually done here (really super long form if you are me). I was about to quit at the start of 2011, but ended up posting more than once a month. So far this year, very much less - but I've gotten used to keeping a journal of important stuff - - and I would like to keep that up, if only for me to peruse years later. This year there have been few big adventures and far less drama, so my posting has been sparse (um, what one or two in all of twenty-twelve so far?) But I think I'll be one of the last el jay hold-outs. There's something about the illusion that other people can read that makes this cognitively different from a personal diary (something I would never bother with). Yeah, I'm just fooling myself, but it works.
