"Singapore" by Mary Oliver

I don’t usually read poetry, though to be fair I don’t usually read either. However, one of the poems we discussed in class entitled “Singapore” by Mary Oliver, really resonated with me. Good point. I used to work in a job where I was on the phone practically all day. My manager used to tell me to be sure to answer the phone with a smile because the client would hear it on his end. I guess that goes along with the saying..fake it 'til you make it.

I have not read much poetry in my school career and the unit in this class was interesting. Sinapore was different to read and follow as the author interjected distractions to make the reader deal with the sadness they may feel for people stuck in this type of work.
