I am not a complete stranger to the fact that living on a reservation sucks but I don't think it has ever been explained as clearly and as potently to me than in the story "This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona" by Sherman Alexie. The American Indians were treated horribly by the government and yet they have somehow managed to find a way to co-exist with what they had left.

I thought that this story was sad and depressing. It is very discouraging to know that even if you work hard, your options are very limited. I have driven through many reservations on my way to Utah from Texas and they are barren places with a lot of poverty. It is sad to know that places like that still exist today in our rich society.

You would think that if he needed to get his father that passed away the reservation would be a little more caring and help him out more than they did.
