Mary was sitting at the nurses station looking over a few charts and making notes about medication when Gretchen Marks walked up with a bemused look on her face ( Read more... )

Helene had been standing at the vending machine--which had finally been fixed--when she overheard the two women talking. She opened her bottle of water and forced a gulp, trying to fight a ridiculous grin. But she nearly choked. She turned to face the station and caught the women's eyes. They began to laugh.

"Are you serious?" Helene asked, wiping her mouth with the back of her sleeve. She didn't wait for an answer, deciding she simply had to discover this for herself. After last night's little chat with Dr. Foreman, she needed something to cheer her up. She half-ran to his office and pressed her right eye up to the crack of his door. There was a slight space between the blinds... where she could see Dr. Wilson... dancing.

"Oh my goodness," she said quietly to herself. She stood up and looked back to the nurses station. "This is fabulous."

Honestly, it wasn't a case of the man looking as if he was having some sort of fit which might require medical intervention but rather a case of his having no real concept of proper dance moves.

And the air guitar with the casefile...probably didn't help matters either.

She began to walk away, her mood astonishingly recovered from it's previous state of upset. Her conversation with Dr. Foreman had taken quite a bit out of her. It was then that she recalled her most recent conversation with Dr. Wilson himself and, on an impulse, she turned back and knocked on the door.

Maybe she wanted to give him a little surprise. Maybe she even wanted to embarrass him a little: not maliciously, of course. Most likely, it was an excuse to break a bit of the doctor-student wall, even if Helene had built almost all of that herself.

"What's going on?" Kevin asked, stopping short when he saw Helene peering through the blinds into Dr. Wilson's office. Part of him knew he should continue on his way and mind his own business. But the other curious part told him Dr. Beal wouldn't be watching if it were something Kevin shouldn't see.

Luckily, he had caught Helene just before she knocked. She jumped a bit. "Oh, erm, I just have to consult with Dr. Wilson for a moment... about a case. I can't find him anywhere else." It was, quite possibly, the most obvious lie she had ever told.

Kevin looked at the door to the office, and then at Dr. Beal. "Okay."

There was probably a story there somewhere, but he would get it later.

Helene watched him as he left, feeling rather upset with herself. Still she knocked on the door as soon as he was out of sight. If she could, she would make it up to him later. Right now, she was feeling a little selfish.

From within the office came the tell tale sound of someone careening misstepping and careening into a piece of furniture, with a resulting yelp! Followed the the equally tell tale sign of a piece of furniture being picked up and set back to rights before a voice, slightly out of breath, called out.

"Come in!"

Within the office, Wilson was running his fingers through disheveled dark hair trying to tame it back into place but it was a loosing battle, he was just going to have to deal with looking rumpled. Besides...everyone was fairly aware of what he was doing in here so there was no point in trying to act dignified.

Unless it turned out to be Vogler out there in which case he was seriously screwed as his labcoat was currently tossed across the back of his desk chair. Wilson smiled wryly and shoved his hands into his pockets leaning on the edge of his desk and waiting to see who entered.

The blinds rattled as Helene pushed the door open. The sight of Dr. Wilson--completely failing to hide what he had been doing, and seemingly resigned to the fact that it was quite useless to try--brought another bright grin to Helene's face. And it was equally pointless to try to hide that, so she let it happen naturally.

"Are you practicing in case there's some music at the dinner?" she asked, eyeing his labcoat. He had forgotten to turn off the music.

Laughing gently, Wilson shook his head leaning back and stretching across his desk to turn down the radio a little so he had a better chance of hear her.

"Oh no. I don't dance in public. I promised House years ago I would never dance in public again and I've kept to that promise."

Taking another deep breath he tilted his head at Beal curiously. "What did you need, Doctor Beal?" Figuring she had something on her mind to be knocking on his door.

Now it was she that was a little embarrassed. She really had no reason for barging into his office. It was just an excuse for a little human, non-patient contact. And shade of the blinds was, for some reason, comforting.

"You really aren't that bad. And, with all due respect to Dr. House, although I've never met him, who cares what he thinks of it anyway?"

With that, Helene knew she was out of things to say. She absentmindedly rubbed her knuckles on the side of her face. "I'm sorry for interrupting you, though. I used to dance and I was just... curious. And I needed a pick-me-up." Her laughter was awkward.
