So Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT) was ruled unconstitutional last night. The House is ready to repeal the measure, the Senate still has to work on it. The article behind the cut gives a decent accounting of what's going on.
I wish I could tell you that HRC is just cautious, or made an error of judgment or something. But the truth about them is ugly. They're an ineffective "charity" that has succumbed to the inherent conflict of interest of all equal rights lobbying- once you've achieved your goal, you're out of a job.
At some point I thought HRC made an argument they were going for the state by state approach to marriage. Let people in Iowa see the sky doesn't fall if two same sex people marry and then let that carry over into other states.
Maybe they were going for the same strategy here? As in, work for equality in other areas and then let it spill over?
They've always been much too concerned with what everyone thinks of them, not wanting to ruffle any feathers and doing "just enough" without really pushing.
