This week there's a club on campus talking about these two people. Apparently they face up to 15 years in prison for providing medical aid to people trying to cross the Mexican-American border.

IndyMedia generally isn't a reliable nor trustworthy news source. Seriously, it's up there with Fox News and the National Enquirer on the list of news sources to trust.

That having been said... this is sick. Especially if it's true. Seems everyone's crazy on the border thing. US can't secure it against terrorists crossing it, but seem to be willing to attempt (poorly) to secure it against people crossing looking for work. Neighborhood watch seems only interested in the latter, and gets shot at and threatened for doing so. But someone had the resources to arrest people for doing the right thing (I didn't read enough to know their reasons).

heh heh, it's amusing to me that you'd expend the effort to relay your skepticism, but not to dispel it.

A quick google search on daniel strauss (one of the two people arrested) also brought up a link from amnesty international:

I think it's enough, though, that amenesty international is publishing their action on the case. (It looks like it took place in the summer of 2005, but that the trials will begin August this year).

I agree that it's sick.
