coincidence?

I was playing text twist a bit ago and one solution was "oxford" and another was "turtle". Pretty creepy since I just got a cat named Turtle and am considering a postdoc in Oxford. Is it a sign? Does it mean I shouldn't keep the cat or go to Oxford or does it mean I should take Turtle to Oxford ( Read more... )

You're making that up! Is there a meaning of "oxford" other than the proper name? Text Twist wouldn't use a proper name! It just wouldn't!

Even if you're making it up, though, I think it definitely means you should take Turtle to Oxford.

The style of shoe that military folks wear is called an "oxford". Also, there's "oxford cloth" (it's sort of a coarse broadcloth) which is used to make the shirts called "oxfords" (when the Polo brand tries to make a dress shirt, it's usually an oxford). So yup, this story is for real.

If you move to Oxford, won't Turtle have to spend a god-awful stretch of time in quarantine? Or are you talking about Miami or Mississippi?

Oopsie, didn't know you already exlpained the oxford thing... Actually, I think if I get shots done in advanced and have everybody microchipped, send bloodwork 6 months in advance and use one of three airlines they can come straight to my home. I worry about risking this with Billy since he needs to get fluids 3 days a week. I wouldn't trust somebody else to do it.

Oh, that makes sense. I think I always thought that it was "Oxford shirts", not "oxford shirts", and I must have assumed they were named after Oxford the place (sort of like Boston coolers). I guess I'll have a chance to learn more about these things if, say, I have a chance to visit someone in Oxford...

So did you solve the one where "Turtle" was the solution? You probably did, but sometimes the brain can be funny like that. I remember a Charlie Brown comic where he lost the spelling bee b/c he couldn't spell beagle, and Snoopy was pissed.

Don't worry, I won't tell Turtle if you didn't guess her...

Ha ha! I actually didn't get the turtle one and then I felt really dumb, were you spying on me?

:) That's exactly what would have happened to me. B and I watched some of the Thin Man movies a couple of months ago. Maybe two days later I was trying to do a crossword with ruprecht_ and the clue was something like "movie detective's dog". We tried everything and then finally gave up and looked up the answer online. I felt pretty stupid when it turned out to be the Thin Man's dog (Asta).

I think we even had a couple of the letters already.
