Does anyone have tips on how to recover a stolen laptop? The cops were not able to recover any fingerprints, and I know they don't have time to be dealing with petty theft, so I'm trying to take the initiative ( Read more... )

Jen! How have you been?

As for your laptop, the best way to track it is through its network card's address. Each computer's ethernet adaptor has a unique address. Basically, each time a certain card logs in, its MAC address is what shows. Therefore, if you know the MAC address (or NIC address), that can possibly be tracked.

How did your laptop get stolen?

Howie!! I'm good, how bout you?? Still down in S Fla?

I'll look into tracking the MAC address. This was a work laptop that belonged to my boss, but he's a good guy, so I'm trying all avenues. I'm going to post on UCF tonight and see if anyone there knows of shady places around OBT.

Thanks for responding :)

Howard's right! That is the best idea. That sucks Jen. I'll bet its the same fucker that stole my bike!

On the bright side, new laptops are at an all time bargain. You can get a nice one for $279 at office depot this week. That still sucks though. I wish you the best Jen!

Hey Doug! I still remember (and get pissed about) your bike! I'm going to look into the tracking thing through the IT dept. at work.

How is your job search going? I hope you've found someplace that deserves you!
p.s. I just read the last entry in your journal, with your fortune cookie quote, and I have to tell you the fortune cookie I got last week- "All things are difficult before they are easy" Ain't that the truth?

I'll leave you with a joke, because I miss you!
Q: What's brown and sticky?

A: A stick.

Take care!

Sheila Suarez is my best friend, she also uses UCF LJ, so she should be contacting you about the wallet, if she doesn't, I can get tem to her.

Just to clarify- I don't have her wallet or anything- but she left her drivers license and a $20 bill at the Walgreens drive through on Dean Road. I was next in line behind her, and I turned both into the pharmacy cashier. Please tell her to call them or go pick up the stuff :) Just make sure she gets her cash back, too, b/c I was concerned about just leaving it with the clerk, but I didn't want to take it and not be able to find her.

Oh odd, but she lives right off of dean road, in that Lake apartment complex, I forget the exact name.

I sent her a message to check LJ, but if she doesn't, you are more than welcome to comment/email me again so I can nag her, she is super busy, she has like a full time job and goes to school, so sometimes she forgets her head.

You did a good thing, most people would've pocketed the money.

I assume her drivers liscense either says Boston or Port St Lucie still, I don't think she changed it, but just to make sure we have the same Sheila, dark haired girl right?

I would post on UCF but I can't.

She lives in East Lake? I live in the apts. right next to that complex. If you could just pass the message on, for her to go to the pharmacy tomorrow and pick up her stuff.
Yep, it's Sheila Suarez from Port St. Lucie.
Thanks for helping out!
