Name: Sarah
Age: Twenty-one
Location: Minnesota
What are some of your hobbies/interests?: I love to daydream; to study history; to listen to music and sing to it; to write poetry and short stories; to sew and oddity or two; to read all manner of books; and to observe the people around me wherever I find myself to be.
What are some particular likes of yours?:Books are a particular love of mine, especially those that are old and in need of a caretaker. I'm also rather fond of wide, open spaces - such as prairies and pastures.
What are some particular dislikes?:To be closed in, or trapped, is a very ill thing indeed. I also do not care for those who purposely live in gross ignorance.
Either describe your personality in five adjectives or write a short description, whichever you would rather do or think you are better at or think would give a better impression of who you are: Stubborn, intelligent, nontraditional, independent, contradictory.
What are your best attributes?:I possess a strong yearning for knowledge and independence.
What are ones that aren't necessarily flaws but might be seen as negative?:My stubborn attitude, and desire to enlighten others with the things I've learned.
Do you have any special talents? What are you "good" at? (Could be anything from making clothes to giving advice.):I'm a fantastic listener, and I always try to give useful advice - or useful direction if that is all that one requires. I desire to help, and therefore will give what I can to those who come my way. I can also sew to a degree, including having produced several Renaissance Festival cloaks. I also write, both recreational pieces and those which are more academic.
Favorite book(s):Pride & Prejudice, The Lord of The Rings Trilogy and The Handmaid's Tale.
Favorite movie(s):Elizabeth, The Lord of The Rings Trilogy and The Duchess.
Favorite quote(s):"You wish to think all the world respectable, and are hurt if I speak ill of any body... There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of either merit or sense."
What is your favorite Jane Austen novel, if you have one?:Pride & Prejudice.
Do you have a favorite Austen heroine? Why her?:Elizabeth Bennet, because of all of Austen's heroines - I feel she best displayed her independent nature and quick wit, which I admire.
What do you value more in a novel, social commentary or romance?:Social commentary, generally.
What do you admire most in or about people?:I admire a person when they behave exactly as they wish to, and don't necessarily subscribe to every social convention.
What is the characteristic you most value?:Independence.
What do you think is the most important thing about you?:My willingness to defy anyone who wishes to change who I am against my will.
Arrange these qualities in order of their importance, from most to least: Caring, selflessness, intelligence, wit, propriety, dignity, daring, idealism, pragmatism, integrity, unconventionality, humility:Intelligence, Wit, Unconventionality, Caring, Selflessness, Integrity, Daring, Pragmatism, Idealism, Dignity, Humility, Propriety.
What is your opinion of marriage?I believe if two adults wish to marry, they would be allowed to - regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, etc etc.
What is your view of love and relationships?I believe love is a transforming event, but that one may love several times in their lives. However, it is never the same form of love - but a different shade each time, and that it never fully leaves a person. It merely transforms, and becomes a piece of who you are, forever etched into your soul. Relationships are meant to be continuous works-in-progress, and must constantly be watched and nurtured.
What do you think is better, a life of love and poverty, or a life without love but with wealth (lack of love and plenty)?:I think both would be endurable, under the circumstances that would bring you to that point in time.
Are you more impulsive or deliberate?:It would depend upon the situation. My impulsive actions are geared towards my creativity, while my deliberate motions are of the more life-affecting sort.
Are you more emotional or calm, levelheaded?Again, it would all depend upon when, where and why. I'm generally calm, but when I am moved to emotion - it is deep and meaningful.
Are you more humble or proud?:By far my pride outweighs my humbleness.
Are you more quiet or sociable?:I tend to remain quiet until I get a better feel for those in who's company I am.
More defiant or acquiescing?:Defiant.
More spontaneous, easy, unconstrained, or inhibited, anxious?:I would say I possess a relatively even balance between both of these options, but with a slight nudge towards my inhibitions and anxieties.
Are you ambitious?:Yes, but ambition in healthy doses allows us to rise above what we began with.
What is your dream life like?:My dream life is filled with innumerable amounts of knowledge and an ability to get that knowledge out to others, to keep it spreading outwards to everyone.
What did you want to "do when you grew up"?:I wanted to be an archaeologist and a mother.
Are you doing it to any degree? Have you grown up?:I'm getting my B.A. in Anthropology, so I'm on my way towards perhaps achieving my dream.
Why do you enjoy the company of people?/Why are you friends with your friends?:I'm human, so sociability is part of my innate makeup. However, I believe I found my friends because they too have bittersweet mindsets towards humanity, but also possess a burning desire to see it bettered.
Are you close to your family?:I believe my family is what keeps me grounded, and allows me a sense of place, of meaning, of unity. I dearly love them.
Who's someone you admire? Why?:Elizabeth I, because she did not fold to the pressures of her advisors to wed, but instead ruled the English kingdom by herself. She allowed for that period to flourish and blossom, which none of her predecessors had been able to do.
What's your dream career?:Museum curator.
What do you think of Jane Austen's writing in general?:I think she dealt with the social climate of her time, but inadvertently created timeless characters that, while not directly similar to our modernity, were still rateable to the readers. Her writing skills were superior, and always produced incredible insights into the human condition.
What's your favorite article of clothing (pants, corset, etc.)? Any reason?:An underdress (or slip), because it is frequently silky and generally stays cool against ones skin, regardless of the weather.
