I asked for advice, but I think I know the answer to my own question-
1. Take a break from trying.
2. Try not to keel over from jealousy every time I see a "Strangely beautiful authors.." ad.
3. Read stuff, write stuff, hear stuff.

I do know that a songbird does not have a whole lot of commercial potential but it's a shame to see one silenced.
As far as the quality of much of the work we see succeed. Time will wash away most of it.
A lot of what will left standing was not recognized in its time. And much of the best will disappear. So it goes.
I think you should do it anyway because you are bent that way and you should not be anything but what you are meant to be.
That you have a meaningful job is worth its weight in gold. How many artist types can say that?
I wish I had some really good answer that would change the way it feels but I don't.
I empathize.
