Here is the deal, I'm going to California at the end of this month and I want to get a digital camera.
At the beginning of the semester I made a deal with my parents that if I got good grades they would pay for half ($150) and then the difference (an additional $100) to get this one since it's a better quality.

The Canon is $400, and the Nikon is $200.
I found them at http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat04001&type=category

Frankly, at the resolution that you'd probably be looking at photos at you wouldn't notice a difference. Considering most computer run of a 1024x768 resolution, the 2592x1944 resolution of the Cannon would get irritating. You'd be scrolling forever to see the whole picture. Cameras of over 3 Mega-pixels are a waste for hometime use, unless of course you're a power computer user w/ some insanely high resolution and you want a nice pretty looking background. The Nikkon overall is a lot better for the price, and it has an Optical Zoom which far surpasses any digital zoom. You just have to think about what you want/need the camera for. For example, it wouldn't make sense for a 65 year old grandma to spend over $1,000 dollars for a computer decked out for gaming, when she all she's going to use it for is checking E-Mail.

Don't be like my roommate and pay 3,000 dollars for a laptop that he uses for listening to music...it's just stupid and a huge waste of money.

Thank you for the advise!!
It's pretty much the exact same thing I was thinking at the store when the sales guy was trying to sell me the Canon, that it would be way too much of a camera for a kid like me.

I think the Canon might be over kill for me, but If my parents were paying for it I would get it since it's nicer.
