So apparently you can't install .exe files on a Mac. Who knew? Besides everyone else on the internet, I mean. I don't really want to install Windows just so I can switch back and forth between operating systems, because half the reason I bought a Mac in the first place was so I wouldn't have to deal with Windows anymore, but we'll see how I feel ( Read more... )

You can try using a virtual machine and installing Windows on that... I'm a Windows "fan" but plan on running either a dual boot with Linux on my comp if I EVER get it built or just going the VM route. I would use VMWare, though Mac has Parallels IIRC.

It's really annoying, though; I have the license for the official Windows version of Adobe CS5 Design Premium, and a part of me feels like you should be able to install it on either Windows or a Mac, especially if you own both (which I hope to do so in the future, though I'm not a fan of Apple aside from my stupidly gorgeous iPhone). Digital "ownership" is just such a contentious thing.

Aaaand suddenly Windows is the weirdest word I've ever seen.

Maybe it's a Lion thing? A bunch of my classmates also have Macbooks, and none of them can run .exe files on their machines either. It's incredibly annoying, especially since some of the stuff we need to do for class requires us to install and/or run files with .exe extensions. Ugh.

What non-Photoshop programs have you tried? I know a lot of people like OpenCanvas and Sai, but I have no idea how much those cost or if they'll even run on my laptop. It would be nice to have Illustrator and Acrobat, though (especially Acrobat -- I used that one a lot), so maybe it would be worth splurging for the whole suite. I don't know, though. It's just so expensive!

One of the major drawcards of having a Mac is NOT RUNNING WINDOWS.

HAHAHAH, YES. My last laptop ran Vista, and the one before it ran Windows ME. I am SO EXCITED to be working on a Mac OS, you have no idea. XD
