The heavy-handed "blah blah messianic destiny" overtones are starting to grate. But yeah, the take-off scene really was great. Best rendering of "self-telekinesis" for flight I've seen yet, outside of "Chronicle".

To be fair, there aren't really that many original interpretations for "really really REALLY powerful and very nice guy who came from the sky and was raised as a humble farm boy who always holds back even when they beat him up because he doesn't want to hurt anybody." Superman has always been kind of Jesus-y.

Personally, I can only tolerate him in small doses. I'm extremely fond of Superman: Secret Identity, but that's a 4-issue mini Elseworld.

Yeah, true, but they could at least have avoided emphasizing it, take some cues from DCAU's Superman...he was pretty tolerable, since they had to give him actual challenges. Or, they could make a Wonder Woman/Power Girl movie instead, but that would be silly.

I'm just hoping this won't be wangsty, because TDKR used up all of my suspension of disbelief for wangst as far as Nolan's creations go.

I will definitely go see this, though.

I hate they're Nolyfying the bloody SUPERMAN. Darkness, grittiness and realism worked in Nolanverse because it was Batman but Superman? Boy scout extraordinary and a bit of a dick? Nope. I'll be honest, the more I see of this, the more I don't want I watch it.
