Ugh, Carrie/Brody is the cancer that is killing Homeland. I'm just about ready to stop watching it purely due to the nauseatingly unnecessary romantic melodrama they shoehorned into my spy thriller. Just... ugh. (Sorry.)
To be honest, I have absolutely no idea what Homeland is, nor who Carrie and Brody are ^^"
(I take it their "romance" is something like the crappy Anakin/Amidala thing in Star Wars?)
However, regardless of Fandom and characters, I do sympathize with people whose OTP was sunk. I tend to get... emotionally attached to my favourite pairings. Not to the point of being a rabid fan (I hope), but yeah, I feel sad when my OTPs are sunk :/
Carrie/Brody is another one of those couples that makes absolutely zero sense in the real world, but since television writers simply cannot conceive of having a male lead and a female lead who don't get together, they've randomly slapped them into a romantic relationship that drags down the credibility of the whole show.
And yet, there are tons of people who love it, so I can only speak for myself I suppose.
But I agree with you, it's ridiculous that there can never, ever ever be a male lead and a female lead who don't get together. And people wonder why the "friend zone" whining is so incredibly prevalent... Every single piece of media ever basically screams "a guy making friends with a girl will result in their having sex!" and too many guys will go batshit and nail themselves to the cross when they find out that real life doesn't work like that.
My OTPs never make it, so there's no such thing as sinking a ship for me, I just know they won't be together anyway, so why bother investing anything in them? I have fics. I sometimes get close to believing that maybe maybe maybe this time, I'll be lucky, maybe this time it'll be... but it never is.
I'm resigned to never getting what I want.
Haha, my icon, remember how PREGNANT CAIERA GOT MURDERED FOR HULK WANGST?!?! *waaaaaaaaaaails*
If I may take a wild guess, I think that the problem is that most of your OTPs are in comics. And, as that gentleman Quesada kindly informed us, our heroes couldn't possibly get married or be in a mature and happy relationship. Because that's what old people do. And you don't want to read about old people, do you? Of course you don't, Quesada said so!
