What's going on with LJ?

WTF is it with LJ? All of a sudden a bazillion ads everywhere. There were some ads before, but now my flist and even my entries page are chock full of them. What happened? Does anybody know?

O.o I'm not seeing it, but that's because I've had Adblock Plus up and running ever since LJ first started using the ads, since they suck at screening for legit advertisers and I got a couple of nasty bugs that way. Maybe install ABP for Firefox? (LJ is so dead, anyway. I really don't know where the sense of community has gone. *le sigh*)

I have never had an adblock, and until a few days ago I could see a handful of ads, but I didn't mind it because, hey, I'm using this service for free, what's taking a look at a couple of ads?

But now there is a bazillion of them! They have made LJ practically unusable D:

LJ is pretty much dead, but... There are people on LJ that I've known for over 6 years, and sincerely care for. LJ is the only link I still have to them, if I stopped using it I doubt I'd ever talk with them ever again, it would be a definitive farewell. This is why I've been so incredibly reluctant to let go of it :(

Well, that, and also the fact that I despise Tumblr. Back when LJ was still active, we had discussions on it, we chatted on it, we exchanged thoughts and ideas. I loved it. Tumblr has replaced words with "click on the like button" faux interactions. I hate it.

You perfectly summed up Tumblr. I'll look at it once in awhile for pics, but I won't get one. It's just a trendy pic sharing site, was never meant to be a blog.

LJ's working ok for me. Then again, I pay for an account.

*sigh* So basically, LJ is now a spam-boat. No that's not a typo.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I've made a tumblr for the sole reason of staying in contact with the people who left, but... not much contact is happening beyond the hammering of the "like" button. It bugs me especially since as a fan and fic writer, I crave dialogue. I love chatting with people, hearing their thoughts, exchanging ideas. Most of what I see on tumblr seems to be circlejerking? Like, a bunch of BNFs have a cult of followers, and that's it? Idk, I'm probably prejudiced, but the serious lack of communities and communication bothers me.

It's appalling. I tried to get back but they hiked up the prices and give you less for more money. The amount of ads-- Christ, it's like they know they are dying and are trying to milk it for what it's worth.

I've got a permaccount (for now, I hear they are supposed to be changing the account types) so I don't see any ads, plus I use an adblocker. I'd suggest an adblocker as LJ has had some difficulty using legit advertisers and I've heard of people getting viruses and such that way.

My guess is that since a lot of people have stopped paying for the service, they need some way to keep revenue rolling in, and that's what they chose.

Honestly, I think this site's days are numbered.
