As some of you might remember, I'm not such a big fan of the Harry Potter series. Main "objections" in a nutshell--the books are painfully pedestrian and there are so many better books out there that don't sell nearly as well. But, why get totally out of shape when faced with the laws of supply and demand, right

Actually, I think that the Harry Potter books are very intellectually written for their intended age groups. I like them. Much better than the Series of Unfortunate Events, which series I read just so that I could mark it off that I have read it.
And you don't have to be some total nutter to buy the Harry Potter books. Most of the adults that I know have read the series (with or without children) and have either reserved their book and / or are going at midnight to buy it. And most of them have already told their kids, "You can read it when I finish."
You read them in 15 MINUTES?? You are my queen. ::bows to you::

I agree with your assessment of the books versus Series of Unfortunate Events. I never got more than three books into that series.
And of course I don't think only total nutters buy the books. I am planning on standing in what I'm sure will be a pretty long line on Friday night, surrounded by people who will probably be wearing disturbing costumes *shudder*. And I'll think the whole thing is worth it.

I hate peoples.
I am definitely going to do the bookstore-at-midnight thing (sans costume) because I didn't do it for any of the other books, and I feel that it is my final opportunity to be a part of the madness.
And I am afraid some jackass will get the book, flip to the end, and shout out the ending and I will have to kill them. I am almost tempted to grab the book, run off, and read it in the car or under my bed or something.
Meep. I am getting excited. :D

I'm really worried about this too. I hope they'd be too afraid of being the victim of hideous mob violence. After all, there are going to be people in costumes. Costumes. Obviously, they wouldn't think twice about ripping the flesh off a spoiler's bones.

I know when the last one came out I was at a Wal-Mart in West Memphis and they just rolled out a pallet of books. No crowd or anything. Of course, I hadn't read any of the books at that point, so I didn't care.

My new job has been kicking my ass. But I love it. In fact, I'm getting ready to head to work for a 14 and a half hour shift right now.

The guy at the counter said that my particular line should be moving really fast. But what was he going to say? "Prepare to spend all night." I don't know, I have faith in the wisdom of Barnes and Noble.
