This is probably not the picture you had in mind when you read this passage, but they seem to mean and say so much in common to me that I could not resist bringing them together here.
Amy, I actively disliked the 1st Outlander book when I read it 9 years ago. Can't really tell you why. I think in a way Ms. Gabaldon shocked me too much--which is kinda hard to do--in the first book the character are still being developed and I didn't trust that what she was doing was anything but gratuitous. Anyroad, I trusted my new friends here and gave it another shot. I'm reading #2, and I really do think she's a great writer. She lets herself be marketed as sort of a romance author, but she is so much more gifted than that. I'd say, yeah, ou ought to give them a try. :)
