It's sad and it's funny, but like Jen said, it's the truth. And the truth totally belongs in a children's book and in their language. I read those books for myself, whether India wanted to hear them or not!

If you ever have a chance to rent the movie "A Series of Unfortunate Events" with Jim Carrey, the author does the audio commentary track in character as Lemony Snicket.
