Last night people were showing off prom dresses, and I got home and wanted to find a picture of my favorite fancy shoes from 1998. FIRST GOOGLE HIT FOR "90S EMBROIDERED PLATFORM SANDALS", although mine were even better - they were silver, not black. Wore them with a black stretch velvet dress and a choker necklace, heck yeah. I definitely kept ( Read more... )

Oh man, I definitely had friends with those shoes. I don't necessarily MISS chunky heels, but man oh man. I wasn't a strappy sandal sort of girl, more of a chunky heeled maryjane wearer, myself. And I went with a stretchy glittery dress for two of the three formals I went to in high school. Only at my actual prom did the poofy layers of periwinkle organza come into play.

That music is NOT oldies. But late 90s/early 2000s is completely my musical wheelhouse so if there are stations out there that want to play that stuff exclusively, I am okay with it being a retro thing.

And excuse me, but you are TOTALLY CORRECT in Lucy Maude being more awesome when it comes to awesome young lady literature. I guess I'm biased considering I grew up going to the island and visiting Green Gables every summer. I mean, okay, Laurie was hotter than Gilbert, but the Anne books (and Emily books and Magic for Marigold) were otherwise just totally superior. (Related note: I'm slowly writing a 1D Anne of the Island modern AU. It's a problem.)

I do love a good chunky Mary Jane. And both glitter and organza, let's be honest :D I did a lot of thrift shopping in the 90s, but it still came out looking very 90s!

I always wanted to go to Prince Edward Island because of those books! Maybe a road trip one of these years. And they hold up for me on rereading.

I am still fond of Little Women but it is preachy. Though man, the sequels are even preachier if you decide to give those a try.

I'm farther in now and it's getting a little more plotty and a little less "each chapter ends with a lesson in which the girls resolve to be better", thank goodness. And book club is going to be brunch in Concord and then going to the Louisa May Alcott house, which should be a lovely morning.
