Out of a survey of 6,000 American converts to Buddism in the U.S only 1 did not have a University degree. 70% had done their Masters or PHD.

This represents one of the most educated religous groups in the world.

depending on how you view the word education.

That's really interesting! Maybe it's because most of the Buddhists are American (ie not from the country of origin of Buddhism) and so only the ones who are "educated" even know what it is!
Because it is not the default religion in the US, that could be why only people with degrees convert to it... Things like Christianity/Judaism etc are already prevalent in the country...

Looking at the word education itself - on the one hand you could just view it as book learning, which is possibly it's most common usage. Do you need a "teacher" to learn? Are we educated only by others? I know you can figure things out for yourself - but is that learning, and if it is - is that education?
