Janet came in after Paleontology, dropped her backpack somewhere, and sat down to see if Carolyn had e-mailed her back yet.

Veronica knocked after stopping by her room after U.S. History. She was carrying a thick folder and her expression was less than happy.

"Hey, Veronica," said Janet, opening the door. "What's wrong?"

Veronica held up the folder.

"Remember that person we were talking about? That I was suspicious of? It looks like I had good reason to be suspicious."

She tried to see if any of Janet's roommates were around. "Can we talk in here privately?"

If either of the girls had actually been looking, they might have noticed a small black beetle with markings around its eyes clinging to Veronica's cuff.

You know. If they were looking.

A bit after seventh period, Isabel came down to see about getting the Western Civ notes from Janet. And if she was alone, well now was as good a time as any to tell Janet the truth.

She stopped outside the door and knocked.

"Hold that thought," Janet said to Veronica, getting up to open the door.

"Hey, Isabel!" Janet smiled and acted normal. "How's it going? You're here for the Western Civ notes, right?"

"If you don't mind. I really appreciate it," Isabel said. "And do you have a few minutes? I wanted to talk to you about something."

"I offered, didn't I?" asked Janet, grinning. She opened the door widely. "I'll grab them. Though I do have company, so if there was something else, maybe that part could wait?"
