1. They think my brother-in-law's hearing is permanently gone. He seems to swing pretty mightily, though. Sometimes he can hear a range of 50% (lower tones: men's voices, that sort of thing) to 80% (higher tones: women's voices, the sounds of his children...) but other times it's pretty damn low. I've missed things for not checking in as often as I'd like - is it the tinnitus causing the hearing loss? *hugs*

No, I don't think so at least. He hadn't any hearing in one ear for the past 8 years but recently he woke up and found his hearing in the other ear gone. It's just a huge mess caused by bureaucracy and bad luck.

It is! It's worse because their boys are both special needs, and one is an escape artist, so he's not even really able to be there with them by himself.
