-Am I the only one not feeling Fandom March Madness this year?

-Paul Rose died. Dude was a kidnapper, murderer, and terrorist and yet an MNA wanted to table a motion in legislature in recognition of said man. Funnnnn. Don't worry, the backlash was a bit hot and he did back down from this but dude needs to shut the fuck up ( Read more... )

That note is awesome.

I've always observed fmm from afar, some rounds I vote, others, I forget. This year, however, I find the nominee selection odd.

It is amazing, it just cheered up my day so very much. I'm glad that it was shared online.

I've participated in every round but the office pool, but I, too, find the selection of nominees odd which explains the lack of excitement I've felt for FMM this year.

I haven't been that into it this year because a lot of picks seemed kind of random. Skyler over Jesse from Breaking Bad? (and I'm not one of the people that hate Skyler, but c'mon she is so not the fan favourite that Jesse is). Even Jo winning Supernatural instead of the more obvious Dean or Castiel?!

The voting just seems like it's getting a little too tactical and it's all about having a set winner from the beginning (which I believe is Joan this year from what people on my flist have said about the plan for her to win because of how crappily the UK Sherlock fans reacted to her casting). Maybe it was always like that somewhat I guess, for me though I find myself caring more about polls if it's people familiar with the characters in question and the campaigning being about convincing the people that actually watch the shows, instead of this trading of votes deal with people just agreeing to vote for a character they knew nothing about in return for a vote for their fav. I know that's always gone on to an extent, but it just seems ( ... )

I just replied to another comment saying something similar, I do think that the random selection of nominees played a role in my lack of enthusiasm but I didn't realize this thing had gotten so tactical. I just don't see how these nominees could be considered tactical, I mean I know nothing about Jo and I know a bit more about Castiel, who's the one I'd vote for if they landed against another character I know nothing about? Castiel, if it's a case of unknown character versus unknown character, it's a 50-50 chance.

The idea od Joan being pretty much chosen to win sucks a lot, not because I hate Joan (I very much like her, she's probably my favourite Watson ever) but because it's not giving other amazing characters a chance.

I haven't watched Elementary yet, although all of the love for it I'm seeing lately has been getting me curious, but yeah I do see a lot of talk of we want so and so up against one another in the final round, although I'm not sure how it all gets worked out exactly. Just a ton of trading votes to get the desired result I suppose

And Jo was a pretty great character, but I just find it hard to believe that someone that has appeared in about 10-12 episodes in 8 seasons would win the Supernatural vote over the regular characters with massive fanbases. But there there is that element of fandom all getting together and deliberately trying to vote Dean out early one year because they were so annoyed that he won over a female the previous year, so maybe a lot of his fans have just given up on it since? I always voted for Sam from SPN actually lol. Well not that he ever had a chance of winning, he seems to get less popular every year :/

Elementary is interesting, for lack of a better word. I mean it's a procedural and the writers have really tinkered with the stories, really it's just the characters that have come through to this version. The fact is the mysteries aren't that great but on the other hand the characters are. I really like Sherlock and Joan, I love their friendship, and I love that Joan does not stand for anyone's bullshit. Lucy Liu pulls that off beautifully.

I know a lot of people in the DW fandom seemed set on getting Martha through, but actively voting against someone because they beat out another character in the same show seems a bit mad, quite frankly. I figure vote for your favourite, especially if there's no chance of them winning.

It really is. It made my day yesterday.

Haha, oh wow, your cat really is a bit of a freak. It's okay, I'm sure my cat would ignore boxes, too.

I really love that note, I also like the one where the girl baked s cake to tell her parents she was gay. It's a shame that those who accept homosexuality as being just a question of who you love are in the minority
