Most people I know live in either Allston, Brookline, the North End (all green line) or Jamaica Plain (orange line). Allston and Brookline are sort of notorious for frat houses, but they're nice and clearly popular to live in. They're more outside the thick of the city. The North End is right beside downtown Boston and the apartments are small and close together but its pretty safe and neighborhood-y. Jamaica Plain is cheap and I've been told is kinda sketchy, but there are nicer areas that I have friends in and they love it. Beacon Hill is close to downtown and is very very nice and priced accordingly (expensive, but I have friends that do manage to live there). All of those have t stops throughout

prepare for expensive rent, depending on area it's up to 2G's a month for a two bedroom. my amigos just got a joint in jamaica plain which is close to all you want for like 1400 between... 4 people, with 1 couple/two other roomies
i should have rephrased that to say we're living in the boston area. i know we can't afford to live in the city, but i'd heard about areas on the outskirts that were cheapish & close. but yeah, not looking forward to paying assloads of bills :[
Def get Correia to hook you up with a place - he knows what he's doing. But other than that, Cappy's Pizza is always good for a late night snack, the best places to eat are in the North End though, and they're not all expensive. Mike's Pastry...omg...the Rocky Road Brownie...the coffee...do that shit up. And the original Pizzeria Regina - best pizza I've ever had in my life. I actually think I remember seeing openings for writers for feminist magazines in that area, which I think you'd be great for if you were interested in that. As far as cheap furniture goes, I'm not sure, so sorry I can't help you there. Haha. But things to do
